Unreal Engine 5
The Secret to Realistic Engine Audio in Unreal Engine 5
Add 3D spatialization, air absorption, and occlusion to a vehicle MetaSound using sound attenuation.
About this tutorial
Make your vehicle engine sounds feel natural and properly positioned in Unreal Engine 5.
Without Sound Attenuation, every engine can sound equally close to the player—even when vehicles are at completely different distances. In this tutorial, we create a reusable attenuation asset for a vehicle MetaSound and turn the engine audio into a realistic 3D sound that responds naturally to distance, direction, and the surrounding environment.
You’ll learn how to:
- Add 3D spatialization to a vehicle MetaSound
- Add Air Absorption for more believable distant audio
- Use Occlusion for vehicles behind walls
Before watching this tutorial, I recommend setting up the main vehicle sound system first.
